A Montenegrin 🇲🇪 Mountain Town
Durmitor Ridge
September 2023.
This is one of the first times I’ve had an uninterrupted chance to take my time to simply photograph.
There no plan or expectation. Just the invaluable asset of time.
It’s the end of summer. The grasses are dead and brown. The skies are a bit bland and lifeless.
But this Montenegro is picturesque in its agricultural simplicity in the foothills of the overpowering Durmitor Mountain range.

I’ve found these photos just by driving around, jumping out of my new van and venturing into fields.
I let the unexpected scenes I find form stories and compositions to re-tell.
Many of the building are uninhabited, and haunted. But somehow, visually satisfying in the muted colours and brownish tones.
This regional country town, in this underdeveloped country, isn’t as well organised as my homelands of Australia, the UK and the USA.
So often the landscape and the town is a mess, but at the same time, uncluttered and simple.
So as you look at the scenes, you find little corners of visual peace among unkempt patches of countryside.
I’m loving it here. Scenery I’ve not seen or worked with before. A good photography challenge. Hosted by charming people a reality away from home.
I recently acquired a 24mm Hasselblad lens (30mm medium format) and its been brilliant.
I can’t wait to keep shooting, and developing, these images.
