Sunset Storm, Scotland
November, 2020. Stranded near Pentland Hills regional park in Edinburgh I made a habit of going for long photography walks.
One walk, I went much further than I usually do to get a shot of this collection of rolling hills… when a squall came out of no where and hit me hard.
I remember the wind being truly scary, hitting me hard over the top of the hill I was on. I found shelter behind a rocky thing and watched the scene unfold in front of me.
What I saw was this rolling light show. Beams of sunlight stobing through the clouds, beams of sunlight tracing over the rolling hills.
The storm, the light, the hills and the mist. For about 10 aggressive minutes this scene was alive.
Shooting with the Hasselblad X1Dii, the incredible colours and colour gradients are remarkable.
To the right of the scene was a checkerboard of illuminated hilltops
Here was the scene pre storm. Calm and tranquil enough. Inviting to go hiking over.
I don’t know why trees don’t grow on these hills, but it makes them a pleasure to look at as you explore.
The sunset squall at its most intense.
Then the Turbulent clouds after the storm. Like a powerful force bought under control.
