Island In The Dark
This island is known for being one of the sunniest places in Europe.
But occasionally, storms roll on. And the skies put on a show.
In this photo above; I knew a storm was coming and was hanging around waiting in the sun.
At the same time ‘Morgan Freeman’ was sunbaking in his favorite spot.
Very quickly, the storm came through with force. I ran for cover, but Morgan Freeman didn’t move.
And I got this shot. Moments later, the storm passed and the skies cleared.
No fucks were given.
This is one shot that I come back to again and again. The curve of the bay combined with the curve of the sky makes me think of an oyster, revealing a golden pearl. Like a diver opening an ugly sea barnacle to reveal a previous treasure inside.
This stormy afternoon I had my camera ready. And I had my electric skateboard. With this skateboard I can move at lightning speed around the shore of the island.
As I move around the sky changes minute by minute. And that minute, a rainbow struck through like a lightning bolt. Framing up the little lighthouse island.
Normally this view is stock standard sky blue, all day every day. This day, it looked like a renaissance oil painting.
It’s a guilty pleasure when the weather comes in. You are allowed to drop everything and enjoy the event. You can switch off from everything else and enjoy pursuit of landscape imagery.
These skies only happen maybe once every 6 weeks.
If you came out for a sunny holiday, and got unlucky with this weather, you’d still go home thinking this place is beautiful.
